Way back in December of 2004 I surfed across a young dude and a really catchy and moving online music video, the Numa Numa Dance -- Gary Brolsma, from Saddle Brook, New Jersey (USA). I included it in my January 2005 Kewl Links and kept seeing new related web sites / pages / videos through the years. Some impressed me more than others -- many were corny, poorly made or just a lot of noise.
What amazes me about the tune / words, whether in Romanian or the two main English versions, is the rhyming poetry / words, the very upbeat music that even gets me standing up at my iMac in the early hours of the morning and dancing almost as I did in my younger years in Europe at German and Spanish discos -- almost simply because I have a bad hip now that sort of limits what I was able to do way back then.
I eventually learned that the original song
was recorded by O-Zone, a Moldovan
[it lies between Romania
and the Ukraine in Eastern Europe] sexy boy trio singing in Romanian.
O-Zone then included Dan
Balan, Arsenie Todiras and
Radu
Sarbu. and the tune was released in 2003.
If you are interested in more background / history / details, the Sources links, below, will provide just about whatever you are looking for.
