Dear Sigmund,
Hi, I was in your science class in 1966 and 67 at the American School of Madrid. You were a bit of a hero to me, and I used to go and dissect fish and rabbits at your lab in the Dept of Echinoderms at the university. Also I will never forget the two embryos you had in that big glass jar in the cupboard.
Well that was when I was 13. I'm almost 52 now, and living in my native Australia. I've spent most of my working life as a journalist and now make a living mainly trading shares, teaching harmonica and running a music video festival. I have an eight month old son Jake -- my first and maybe only, he's brought a lot of joy to my life and was born amid the deaths of both my parents.
I'm very interested in spirital things, keep notes of my dreams, which are often prophetic, and am guided by intuition.
Extremely interested to read on your websites about the spiritual spheres your life has embraced.Your life has been an interesting journey.
Regards, Tony Maguire, Brisbane, Australia
I replied to Tony in a message dated 27/12/06 06:08:53:
Tony,
how well I remember you and our activities -- sorry for the many month delay in getting back to you -- your email has been sitting on my desktop screen since I received it, perhaps waiting for a moment of inspiration in the tsunamies of daily life -- well, that happy moment has arrived -- come to think of it, soon after I received your message I started writing a reply BUT aol conked out on me and I was soooo disappointed that it took me this long to recover --
do you remember the scorpions that a friend at the university gave me from his trip to the sahara? He later became the director of the spanish wildlife enclave of doñana in southern spain (near sevilla) -- I finally got my masters in palaeontology in madrid some years later --
those years teaching at the american school were probably the best of my teaching career, including those at the school in las palmas, and of course, those at the universidad de la laguna in tenerife. The school still exists in aravaca and thrives, and I think the one in las palmas is also there -- ASM sends me the school bulletins every now and then -- I used to run across another student, on visits to madrid and even on several flights to and from from the USA via madrid to the canaries -- his mom had an antique shop in madrid, but for the life of me I can't think of his name right now -- it will probably come back to me AFTER I click this off to you --
when I returned to the states I taught in south jersey at a fairly good high school, but when Mom died I took a civil service exam as fortran programmer for the state in trenton, that got boring after 6 months and then I started teaching in the trenton public inner city schools -- mostly blacks and hispanics, many on welfare, with NO interest in school other than socializing, passing lurid notes during class, watching the boobs of the female teachers and the bulges in the pants of the males -- not exactly conducive to science, with FEW exceptions -- I retired prematurely after an auto accident, a bout with cancer and getting mugged several times, which probably preserved what little sanity I still had, but also gave me a pension that was FAR less than what I would have gotten had I retired at the usual age -- ithas been a Sisyphus like life ever since, trying to make ends meet -- our social system is one of the worst in the world -- I could live well had I to return to tenerife, BUT my property and stuff here are like chains, keeping me from making the big move -- sometimes I think / hallucinate about just leaving everything and going back --
almost 52, huh -- then I was only 14 years older than you (and still am!) -- I tried to find something about you online but came up with zilcho -- do you have a web site or some link/s related to your activities? As I recall you were a lanky built kid compared to most -- I wonder what you are like now. I have my old school yearbooks stashed somewhere, but a couple moves means that they are probably in some unidentified box piled on others, or even in my files in the canaries.
my belated condolences at the death of your parents -- I lost my Dad while teaching in las palmas, and couldn't go to the funeral -- I later retured home to be with Mom who was alone (and wanted to be), and just when she decided to move into the family summer home in southern new jersey (she had heating installed for me) to be with me because I was the easiest to get along with of her 3 kiddos, she too died. The cards we are delt in life are not always winning hands --
you married late? Congratulations on the birth of your son -- you must be very pleased, and now have a LOT of work to do caring for / educating him -- I assume that you have help with the chores -- it really isn't as simple as it used to be these days of way too many distractions --
I still have a place in the mountains of tenerife, not far from the university and the old airport -- have NOT been back since 2001 simply because I never have enough money to make the trip, compounded by my somewhat dumb idea of breeding hairless sphynx cats -- NOBODY would take care of them if I leave for a month (and I cannot take all of them with me, naturally -- although the PAIR of siameses I had in madrid would accompany me on several trips back and forth to the states), and the only person that said he would care for them totally botched my absence during the trip in 2001 -- when I came back they didn't have any food or water and were thin as rails -- so much for depending on friends who always seem to find things for me to do FOR THEM as quickly as possible --
I guess you have seen my traditional Christmas web page and my latest personal YES news -- that is how I try to keep in touch with family and friends around the world, most of whom I have never met -- I didn't have your mailing address or I would have sent you my Christmas card -- I tend to make my own greeting each year -- I still have one of a limited edition left, so send me your addy please --
Kardas * Christmas 2006
enough for you to read for one note? I DO tend to get wordy in emails, probably because I really don't get out that much these days and try to make up for it in cyber contacts, which aren't all that frequent. When I do get out to the post office or to sam's club to get food I usually chat up a storm with everybody and anybody! The cats I talk to in spanish, always did -- it kinda keeps me in practice, I guess -- a former university student and his wife sometimes call me on the phone to talk about things and how my place is surviving without me being there -- I have it closed and never tried renting it -- it's too full of my own library / collections and stuff to be able to trust potential renters -- incidently, when I am able to get back there, feel free to get out your skateboard and come on over for a week or more -- I have room for peeps there -- HERE the place is so totally cluttered with things removed from two former properties, and there is only one uncluttered bedroom with a large bed which would probably be big enough for two, IF the other peeper enjoys cats smooching them for hours, crawling in and out of the blankets and all until they tire enough to finally go to sleep!
Summer started for you in kangaroo land -- here the weather has been exceptionally mild thus far.
My best to you and your loved ones for the holidays and new year, and God bless,
Sigmund / aka Sonny
We have exchanged several emails since then -- he sent me the URL of a Brisbane news page about a story of his harmonica classes, including the following photo -- he is on the left --

Hi - No, it's my home. I always think that someone is thinking that when I write that in. One never knows. Never met Martha although my daughter used to date Martha's atty and he went to the facility every day. I'll add a bit more then. Thanks, Roberta, Beverly Hills, California
Roberta said she lived in a "gated community" -- I asked if it was a female correctional institution! Of course I knew what she meant but wanted to inject some humor in the usual cut and dried ebay transaction -- she then mentions Martha Stewart and that her daughter dated her attorney -- kewl tidbits which I enjoy

Hello! First let me say I am sorry for the loss of your friend Evelio Delgado -- looks like he had a passion for music, adventure and much more --- what I would give for one of those tomatos!!! I reside in TX now and can't get that taste down here.
I was raised in Trenton, NJ but Philadelphia is where I enjoyed the growing years of life for a period of time. I remember the library very well.
Let me not take up more of your time .... I would like to have the book insured when shipped. The book is very important to me. My old beau use to call me 'Tina Trenton'... and I am currently working on family history tree so I cannot let anything happen in the mailing. I am certain you understand.
Let me know shipping with insurance etc. and I'll make payment quick. Any other interesting goodies depicting Trenton or NJ?
Thanks so much.... Micki, Houston, Texas

Hi Sonny,
This is Deborah. I just opened the priority mail packet which
you sent to me which contained Ebay item, 'Elsie Kith & Kin'.
I at first thought that the larger, flat item in the packet was
extra packing material to protect the Elsie book, but I was very
glad that I checked it again because I found that it is another
book which I did not order.
The additional book is softcover and it is a Christie's catalog
type book with beautiful pictures in it. The front of the book
has these things listed on it: London, 22 Arlington Street, A
William Kent House, Wednesday May 2005. Christie's'. I wanted
you to know about this book right away in case it is someone else's
purchase which may have been accidentally placed in
the packet with my purchase. Please contact me about
this when convenient for you. I also want you to know that
I left you feedback today at Ebay.
Take care now, Deborah, Corning, New
York
I always send every eBay winner an extra surprise book in their package, gift wrapped with a gift label -- some think it was sent to them in error, as in this case

Hi Sonny. I received the boxes yesterday. I am so thrilled. I will be using them for my friends at work for years to come. They are bigger than I thought they would be. And thank you so much for the teddy bear.

Kathy ordered my last case of kewlio Christmas gift boxes about the size of the Animal Crackers boxes of yesteryear, the ones that had the cloth carry cord. There must have been 500 in the case. Of course, being the holiday season, I also included a gift holiday teddy bear [instead of a book]

new to Ebay and read all your site and I was wondering if I could
pick your brain on a few questions that I have as a buyer and
now a novice seller. I am disabled and this has given me a whole
new world out there that makes me feel worthy. I have an antiques

added Rodriguez bear. What a surprize! I was especially happy
to win this auction as Vice-President Gore was an overnight guest

I also traveled with the Gore troup to the debates during that

Your chart showing the characteristics of book is easy to read
and useful. Sounds like we are of like minds. On eBay I've always
subscribed to the theory that 'the more you tell, the more you
sell.'
As an author of 4 books and a dozen magazine articles mostly of
a technical nature I've learned that most folks don't read but
they will look at photos, tables, charts, lists, drawings and
so on. Gene, El Paso, Texas

(mi esposa) hadn't been in 6 yrs. 2 weeks was enough time to gather
w/ family around the kitchen table, but it sure wasn't enough
time to do any sightseeing. We still managed to cram a quick 3
day trip to Malaga on the TALGO and a
daytrip to Chinchon and Aranjuez...my favorite pueblo in all of
Spain. Tinas sisters live in Ciempozuelos, so. of Madrid near
Valdemoro. I take it the culture really rubbed off on you. If
that's so, I say OLE! Drop me a line if you want and maybe
we can share some tales. Oh yah,I'll keep up on your auction page, etc.

As payment for the item below, a money order for $8.79 was sent via regular mail from Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, 1/23. Also (since you are selling things that are of value to you) I offer the following in trade, which I wrote in November 2006:
DAEDALUS (NOW)
Which do I mourn more: the son or the dream
We shared, but only I fulfilled?
Even now I cannot answer:
Surely gravity is as much a prison as grief
Or the labyrinth
And mundane and profane are the same.
Nothing tangible remains of my son
Not ashes daring him to rise again
Not even one charred feather.
Into my new wings, I weave
The pieces of his soul that were not ready to die
Hoping the blue will heal
Only in darkness can we hide from the sun
Which may have wounds of its own.
From a distance, it is smaller
Than an injured bird.
How can I not hold it in my hand?
In the skies I am equally god and man
And the sunset is my soulblood.
Remember Icarus and cower in the light
Or remember my name and fly.

I will have a check or money order produced tomorrow and mail to you immediately. You should receive the payment via First Class mail in 2-5 business days. I'm really glad to have found this book as my grandfather is a duck carver. He met the famous Charles Perdew and his wife back in the 1960's.
I have two of my grandfather's ducks and plan to never sell them. He's really particular about the sizing of his ducks, that the proportions are correct. He said a good way to determine poor craftmenship is the setting of the eyes. My grandfather makes mainly realistic looking ducks, where he burns-in all the details of the feathers and makes sure that the feather are true for that particular duck. He's made two full-sized Canda Goose and one is mine, but I have yet to take possession of it.
Hemp and marijuana are related, but not one and the same or interchangable. Just like dogs, dogs certainly are not wolves and there are distinct differances between beagles and greyhounds for example. Even when you consider that both are "hounds" they certainly have differnent purposes, such as running fast and hunting rabbits, respectively.
Hemp can be grown for seed or fiber. Fiber traditionally goes into cordage and textiles, but modern applications place it in automotive composites! Hemp seed is full of EFA's such as Omega-3 -- the "good fats!"
Yes, eBay is a bit of a mess. I tried it once and didn't like it, so we have our own online store; though no auctions since nothing is "one of a kind."

Dialup speed never bothered me in the least -- of course, when I finally got DSL high speed InterNUT in March of 2007 I could at least get web pages to load faster and could watch uTube and other videos without having to wait 20 minutes for them to totally appear. With or without DSL I still type with two fingers, which really amazes me -- I have literally hundreds of web pages on line, which ALL took a LOT of time to design and prepare. When I first started many years ago, my Apple computer was really slow compared to the iMac I now use. I just spent a couple hours reformatting my Guest Book pages dating back to 1997 and added this new one, so if anyone wants to send me some feedback or whatever, I shall add it on my next update..
