I'm really excited about all of the new Beanies that Ty just released...they all look so neat! Actually, my question is about one of the new Beanies...Beak. When I saw his picture, I thought he was really cute, but I had no idea what he was! I had never seen anything like him before. A couple of days later, I found out that he was a kiwi. My question is, what in the world is a kiwi? Where do they live and what kind of animal is it? I always thought that a kiwi was just a fruit...I never knew there was an animal called a kiwi! I would really like to know and am very curious. Please help me out! Thank you and please say "hi" to all of your Beanie friends for me! Your friend, Ashley :o)>>
Hello Ashley,
Kiwi says hello and told me she is a bird that only comes from New Zealand. Her wings are not really developed, so she can't fly, and her "feathers" are so fine they look sort of like hair.
Incidently, her name "Kiwi" comes from the Maori language and sounds like her cry or voice.
If you do a Web Search for "Kiwi" you will probably get thousands of LINKS to get more info.

My Mommy called 2 stores in England and both of them were no longer taking names for waiting lists...one store had over 450 people on the list and the lady who answered the phone said they only could order 12 a month. Do you think that they will retire Brittania really soon? I sure hope not....I love all the beanie babies but really love the bears the most and hope that maybe one day I will get Brittania and Mommy will not have to pay lots and lots of money to get it for me and my baby sister. Please tell Princess we love her and hope to be able to get her too!!! Love your friend, Michelle from California >>
Hello Michelle,
Brittania tells me that he hopes that he doesn't retire before he sees more of the United States. He loves to travel but has not seen most of the States yet.
Princess says that the same thing that happened to her is happening all over again with the British bear, and that Father Ty should think more about the kids than about making more business hype and creating a greedy secondary market.
She sends you her best regards,

Hello Nathan,
St.Patrick was a Roman-Brittan who lived in the 4-5th Centuries. He went to Ireland as a missionary. Legend has it that he chased all the Slithers out of the country!
Irish means from Ireland. Erin is another old, poetic name for Ireland. Some parents call their child Erin.
So Erin tells me he is named after his namesake country, Ireland.

Hello J.T.,
Father Ty has a lot of people dreaming up new Beanie pals. He himself even designed some of them.
I would assume that Jenna works for Ty.

My question is, why is Erin so hard to find? Does it have something to do with being late for the new beanies announcement, like Princess was? Love, Chelsea>>
Hello Chelsea,
Erin, like Princess, is very hard to find because MANY Official Adoption Centers are making more money selling them for a higher price at Beanie shows, online and to dealer friends. Others have weekly drawings of tickets that people pay $5 (or more) for to "win" him or her. If only 100 people buy a ticket, that's a whole pile of money!!
Princess reminded me that although my Beanie friends were meant for kids, many grownups who have "discovered" Beanies in the last couple months see them as a way to get rich fast, and apparently they are trying!
Peace says he knows that there are a lot of parents who let their kids play with even their older Beanies, like Chilly and Radar, and they take them to school and even sleep with them and all. And when they get dirty, they stick them in the washer-- which actually makes them very dizzy! That is what they are for!

Hello Travis,
I wish I could talk to Father Ty but I now have no contact with him, unfortunately. If we are lucky, maybe he will have the time to read this in my mailbox and could answer you personally. He is really a nice man.
All my Beanie friends and I are very sorry to hear about your disease. With medical research on what they call "gene therapy" they might come up with some way to cure a lot of different medical problems. Valentino, our Beanie heart specialist, thinks it is a good possibility though he can't imagine how they would do it.
It is interesting that my human friend, Sonny, has the exact same favorite color and he likes the same animals. When he was working at the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences as a teenager he took care of an opossum (which is the only American marsupial, or pouched mammal, related to Pouch from Australia), a porcupine and other cute animals in the Exhibit Department. He even had a pet hedgehog when he was studying in Germany on the North Sea many years ago!
ALL of my Beanie friends are technically "limited edition" because they ALL eventually retire.
Princess told me that at least 2 of your brother's favorite animals will appear as new Beanies, but she never tells me when. Sorry. She sends you her Love.

Hello Jordan,
Princess, who knows all these things, told me that there will be new dinosaurs in the nursery this year, and I can't wait to meet them. My human friend, Sonny, also predicted last year that there would be new ones this year.
We will all have to wait and see!

<<Name: Christina State: New York Dear Rex, I wanted to know something about the newly released beanies. I've been trying to get them ever since they came out. When I find a place that carries them they're out of stock. All I want to find is Hissy the snake. Can you tell me how I would be able to obtain them QUICKLY! Thanks. Christina>>
Hello Christina,
Princess tells me that the newer Beanies always seem harder to find than the other "currents". If you can't find a Beanie at the Official Adoption Centers, then why not check one of the trading boards. My human friend, Sonny, lists several on his main Beanie page.

Hi,
When a new Beanie comes into the nursery it doesn't really mean that one of the others will retire at the same time. Father Ty usually retires a bunch of us a couple times a year, and only he and Princess knows who they will be and when they will start collecting retirement benefits. But she can't tell me because it is her secret!

Hi Christina,
When a new Beanie Baby arrives in the nursery it usually takes about 6-9 weeks, and sometimes even longer, BEFORE he or she is actually available for adoption. Remember, as they say, PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!
Erin is just a new Beanie pal, and he tells me that he should be available for adoption at the normal adoption fees at any of the Official Beanie Adoption Centers. At least he hopes that the same thing that happened to his friend Princess doesn't happen to him too! That would be awful!!

Hello Dalton,
Hissy is here sitting all coiled up beside me and said that Father Ty wanted him to be straight, just like his cousin Slither. But Hissy preferred to be coiled. He likes to sit like that.
Sonny, my best human pal, said he was on a fieldtrip in northern New Jersey a couple years ago and found a Copperhead snake all coiled up just like Hissy is. Sonny likes snakes and has had different kinds since he was a kid. So he picked it up and everybody on the trip was amazed to see that poisonous snake so close up! He even showed me a pic of him with a real hissy critter in his hands! KEWL!!
You are lucky, though, Hissy isn't the poisonous kind, even though his head is sort of V-shaped!

Or do we have any beanies that are USA only, like Canada's Maple, and now Britians' Britannia? I think that Beanies should be available to you where ever you live, not just in one area. What do you think?? On a more personal note, How big is the Beanie Family you live with?? I have a Beanie Family of 87. Have a Beanie or Roaring Good Day!! Ariel. >>
Ariel,
Maple and Britannia tell me that they are the only Beanies so far that are special to a particular foreign country. And this makes it VERY difficult for American kids to get them at a NORMAL price, even when they are still "current".
Both of them told me in private (don't repeat this to anyone please!) that they are proud to be NAMED the Canadian and British bears BUT AT THE SAME time they wished they could be available in ALL OF the Beanie adoption centers.
There will be other special international Beanies coming out in the not too distant future. Imagine what a blue bear with a circle of gold stars on its chest would look like, commemorating the European Economic Community, sort of like the United States of Europe. It could be a female bear named EURA. If they named it EURO, it would be a male bear and then all the stupid rumors would say that all the European countries would sue Ty because that is the name of the new European coin. So to get around this small detail they would use the female name!
With the internet we Beanies are available all over the world. Sonny, my human pal, has friends in Spain who have a nursery full.
I live with millions of my Beanie friends. Can you imagine!

Granted, we can all find pictures in a collectors book or reference of sort, but sometimes a picture just isn't as good as the real thing. So I was wondering, is there such a thing as a Beanie Museum out there? Does the Ty corporation maybe have some kind of tour or a room showing examples of all the retired, current, out-of-production, etc. beanies? I know that most of us out there have little chance at adding the Great Rex or many others to our collection, but I think we would all love the opportunity to see you and your friends up close. If there isn't a Beanie Museum as of so far, perhaps you can get together with some of your friends and put something together? I know the concept seems a little wild, but wouldn't it be cool? Your friend, Michelle >>
Hi Michelle,
I really like your idea for a Beanie Museum. That would be super kewl ( which means "cool", but an online friend always spells it that way and I like it better). I went to a couple museums with Sonny and they sell all kinds of neat stuff. They have books, videos, hats, umbrellas, loads of posters and even toys and games, a lot of them about dinosaurs!
If I would make a Beanie museum I would show the whole life story of each of my friends, and they would all be right there too in interactive displays. At the museum shop they would have Beanies, of course, and lots of Beanie accessories like sleeping bags, Beanie puzzles, key rings, calculators that tell you the birthday, if they are current or retired and even the poem of any Beanie name you type in, videos about Beanies including the full length movie they all star in, school bags and lunch boxes, beach towels, mugs, paper plates and napkins for Beanie birthday parties, Beanie watches and many other things that I have on my very long list. Sonny says he would love to start one, but he doesn't have all the money he would need to get it all together.
Ty hasn't had the time yet to start one like this, but the idea has occured to him. He is too busy trying to ship Beanies to the adoption center on schedule.

My question has to do with your distant relatives Iggy and Rainbow. When I first heard the names and saw the pictures of these new additions to Ty I thought, "What a cute bluish-green chameleon, and what a neat greenish-yellow iguana." When the Ty site officially announced their introduction to the world, I was shocked. A chameleon with an iguana's back crest? An iguana with a chameleon's head? I thought that surely there was a mix-up (note: Magic the magic). Needless to say, it appears that these new guys are supposed to be that way. I know that there are no tie-dye chickens or crabs, but don't you think Ty should more closely try to represent the animals they are trying to portray? I wrote Ty a letter, and found latter on a web site that someone had received a batch of mistagged Rainbows. Supposedly they were mistagged Iggy, both tush and hang. Maybe Ty corrected what I believe is an error? What is your opinion on the matter. Thank you for your time and consideration. Always, Michelle P.S. I love your site! >>
Michelle,
I thought that only kids wrote to me, but I see that we also have "professionals" asking grown-up questions! WOW, I can't believe it. What kinds of jobs did the reptiles you worked with have? I looked in the local Beanie News classifieds and only found two ads for them. One was an opening for a retired reptile, as a Lounge Lizard at a bare bones TV station with Howard Sternum, and the other was in a handbag factory, but Ally told me their employees don't last long.
Well, as a professional dinosaur, I find that:
1) Rainbow thinks he is the kewlest chamelion around, and he tells me that his crest helps him absorb more heat from the sun when he sits on a rock during a nice day, which he does a lot with Steggy
2) and Iggy says that his head is just the right shape for his unique subspecies of iguana, since he burrows into some hard desert caliche and it sort of serves as a wedge to dig in faster. He bets you don't even like his cousins that graduated in a different class, the Caecilians because they don't even have legs?
Have you ever heard of EVOLUTION or ADAPTATION? Ty, our Father on Olympusnois, never makes mistakes. Creativity is uniquely and genuinely "the real thing". Have you ever before heard of a dinosaur who answers kids questions ?
3) Doodle tells me that he has seen some Asian chickens that are even more colorful that he is, and Sonny , my human pal, said he saw crabs in the coral reefs at Eilat that were even more polychromed than Claude-- but he never told Claude this! Claude is kewl the way he is! I, speaking again as a professional dinosaur, won't even mention the group of Incertae Cedis to which Magic, Mystic and Spooky belong!

Hi,
If you read some of the emails that I received and answered (under this one), you will find a reply to your Princess question.
Whenever new Beanies are born, they have to travel from way out West, like across the whole Pacific Ocean to get to Illinois. After they rest up for a couple weeks (because when Beanies get jet lag, it really takes them a long time to recover), they talk among themselves to see what part of the country each of them wants to see first-- then they pick straws to see who goes where. When all this is over, 6-9 weeks have already gone by and they are just starting to get packed for their trips to the Beanie Adoption Centers. So you will have to wait a few weeks before you actually see any of them-- the same thing always happens when new Beanie births are recorded!
I wish you good luck to find the woofwoofs you like so much. They are cute!! BRUNO says "hello", and that he will be on the lookout for you. He wants to know what your dog's name is.
ONLY be patient, you will eventually find them all at the "normal" adoption price.

First to question number 1-- there are 68 "current" beanies, not counting Maple, and 11 new January ones, and a couple that have changed, like Mystic with her shiny new horn. And there are many of my Beanie friends who have retired.
YES, there is a new froggy already in the nursery happily hopping around me right now, saying "tell her about me, tell her about me". His name is Smoochy, and he loves to give kisses! Maybe, if you are real lucky, when you kiss him he will turn into a handsome Prince, just like in the fairy tales!
Thanks for telling me I am your favorite <blushing>
