BEANIE BIRTHDAYS

Here are some of the emails about Beanie birthdays that I received since January. Remember that I don't pick a winner until the end of each month. Thanks for all your really great letters. I never knew I had so many friends!

Make sure that you read my answers so you don't ask the same question again.

And please sign your letter with your first name and include the State you live in.

I mean they're the opposite, so its pretty cool. Anyway, as I was saying about the birthdays, why do Bucky and Manny have the same exact birthday (June 8, 1995) when they're two totally different animals. So are Righty and Left, I know, but at least when you talk about one you talk about the other. You never here someone say "Manny and Bucky." They have nothing to do with eachother! Was it a mixup or something? I don't understand! Thanks Rex! Carolyn, New York>>

Hello Carolyn,

Righty and Lefty are named after the Democrats and the Republicans, the two main political parties in the U.S. Their birthdays are, of course, Independence Day, the 4th of July.

Bucky and Manny have no connection, except that they are both mammals, you know, head, eyes, ears and all that. It was probably just an accident.

It seems as if the new releases all have different and new birthdays, and we can look forward to seeing more new dates to fill in the missing ones.

Hello Sean,

A lot of my older Beanie pals do not have birthdates. I count 24:

Bronty, Bumble, Caw, Chilly, Flutter, Humphrey, Libearty, Peking, Princess, me, REX, Steg, all of the old face Teddys and all of the new face Teddys EXCEPT Brown, Trap and Web.

My husband is angry that there is no beanie born on his birthday, I have 2 of the same from my birthday(strut). By the way your website is great! Thanks. Amy>>

Hello Amy,

Some Beanies not only have the same birthday but several different ones even share the same "item number" and two have 2 different birthdays (Freckles and Scottie)!!

All of the new January '98 releases each has a NEW birthdate and I can only assume that eventually the missing dates will be occupied.

Both of my brothers have beanies for there birthdays.....it makes me mad. Could you please help me out:) Thank you Courtney p.s. my favorite color is yellow it would be nice to have a beanie made on my birthday 8-22 with the color yellow!!!>>

Hello Courtney,

There are many days of the year missing from the Beanie birthday calendar. You might have noticed that the last 10 new ones all had new and different birthdates.

Maybe you will be lucky when the new ones appear in the very near future and one will have your birthdate.

Could you tell me why the birthday of beanies differ from the date the beanies were introduced? I thought they should be the same dates. I would love to know that answer. Stacy Laverty from Longview, TX >>

Hello Stacy,

Princess said that new Beanies are announced a couple times a year, and that the date of their introduction has nothing to do with their actual birthdays.

They were all born on different dates, some of them connected with special events such as the 4th of July, or the birthday of the people who work at the Cloning Centers.

Wouldn't it be confusing IF all of the new Beanies that appeared in October 1997 would ALL have the same 1 October 1997 birthdate?

Did you find one with your birthdate yet?

Hi Jennifer,

Since there are about 365 1/4 days in a year and there are not 365 1/4 Beanies in the nursery yet, I guess you will have to wait for your lucky date to turn up. My human friend Sonny finally has a birthday Beanie this year, SPUNKY. It is a good name for him!

Hi,

You can find the answer to when my birthday is right under your question, in one that I answered already.

Pugsy and Twiggy (that's what I always call them at the nursery!) are here watching me as I type your answer. They both said to tell you hello from them.

Hi,

Princess, who knows everything, said that Ty has plans for a couple more prehistoric animals for the nursery, but she told me that I can't tell you when they will be added.

Well, if you read my homepage you already know that my birthdate was just too long to put in that little space. The same with my friends Bronty and Steggy. Curiously enough all the others without birthdays were born in 1992 on the 29th of February, between 2am and 11:30pm. What a coincidence! Since it was a leap year, and they would only have real birthdays every 4 years, Ty decided to leave the space blank instead of trying to explain the whole thing on the little label. The print would have been so small that nobody could have read it even if it was there. Remember that the first labels didn't open up like they do today. Now there is twice the space, and they can even put in poems and all.

A lot of people have wondered about the missing birthdays but they never asked me before.

In a message dated 2/1/98 02:45:30, you wrote: <<When did TY start making beanie babies? >>

Dear Emily and Tommy,

It was exactly at 13:27:12 on Thursday, 2345 B.C. in Tel al Ilinoise, a cave town near the Red Sea. Abdul Tyme Warischneskywitzner got the idea from his father-in-law's son-in-law, using lentils to fill the first critters made of woven papyrus reeds colored with henna and different earth minerals.

His first models were Squishy the sea cucumber, Ouch the cobra, Scratchy the mutt, Beaky the vulture, and Cleo the Empress.

Sales over the first 37 years were very slow-- he only sold a total of 19, and all of those to a neighbor whose great-great grandchildren found them in a toy urn and were able to sell them in Rome at a flea market right in front of the Colosseum to a collector for millions of Drachmas.

Then, thousands of years later Ty Warner, a very distant relative of the real ORIGINAL Beanie Baby maker, came out with his first, much cuter Beanies in 1994, even though some of the old labels have a 1993 date on them.

Princess is looking over my shoulder as I write this and she was surprised that I know so much about the history of Beanie Babies. But that's why I have so many reference books all over the nursery to check things out when I have to. Now days it is much easier to get information with these new fangled computers. I really love them, but my claws keep getting caught in the keys!

Jessica,

We Beanies are not at all afraid of each other. We are always playing games and have lots of fun together.

If you look at some of my other emails, you will see that I already answered the question about my birthday.
