"Before each campaign,
and on the eve of every battle or treaty, Napoleon consulted
his favorite Oracle. His grief for the loss of this companion
of his private hours, was excessive; and it is said that, at
Leipzic [his army was defeated
there in 1813], he even
ran the risk of being taken, in his eagerness to preserve the
cabinet, containing it, from destruction."
OMG! WHAT A TREASURE! I actually wanted to keep this fantastic unbelievably
kewl tome in my collection of esoteric books, but it happened to be in a box that I randomly
labelled as being for eBay, and I didn't want
to tempt the fates! A friend asked me recently whether I was
superstitious -- nahhh, NO
WAY, Jose! Capricorns
are noted for having their hooves firmly placed on the ground!
Therefore I shall attempt to put this rareity up as close to
midnight, EDST, as possible.
After the end of a longish introduction
by the original translator, "I have prefixed to the present work an authentic and
interesting account of the ORACLES which bore so famous a part
in the histories of ancient Egypt and Greece.",
in which 6 of the most important classical oracles
are described.
I DID do an oracle reading on whether this sale would be
successful and was told, "It signifieth plenty of everything which
gold can purchase". Does that mean
I can pay some back bills?
And, YES, I dared to ask it whether I should live to OLD age, whatever
that means - "The
end of dissipation is speedy death; - avoid this and live long" - DAMN, what the hell is dissipation? My ONLY mentionable vice is
eBay - does
that count?
OK, since I may still theoretically have
some time left, how about a future spouse (generic sense) -
"A
rich and young person will be thy partner"!
OMG,
just what I have LONGed for for years already! I can't wait! All right,
all you generic-sensed unattached serious individuals (without
a webcam) out there, HERE I AM! A
certified LEVEL
1 straight-acting dude ! (without
tattoos BUT complete with Certificate of Authenticity!)
Book in EXCELLENT Condition!! Top of spine slightly rubbed. The linen-backed Oracle
chart is bound in the front of the book, and the binding is cracked
along the fold, YET ATTACHED. Me, in So-So condition (but NOT included in sale - sorry about that!).
