This OUT OF PRINT catalogue lists and describes 362 lots of extremely rare VINTAGE Toys of every kind produced by the Britian Company since about 1890 !

"Very few of the toys made by William Britain and his family before they started to make toy soldiers still exist. In all probability, this is simply because these items were hand assembled in one room of their family home, perhaps even as a side-line to other employment. By contrast to some of the emerging major toy manufacturers in Germany and France, the Britains were very much a cottage industry.

"As is the case with so many collectors 'of a certain age' Arnold Rolak has collected soldiers and other toys all his life, but he became very much the pre-eminent collector of Britains models... Many examples in this unique array are the only ones in existence and represent a wonderful display that may never be seen in one place again."

Included are - vehicles; mechanical carts, vehicles, animal and human-form toys; nodding head figures; tons of soldiers, many mounted on horseback, horse drawn military vehicles; Edwardian, Georgian and Elizabethan busts and figures; sporting sets (cricket, golf, archery, horse racing); Buck Rogers and Disney characters; Cadbury's Cococubs, garden birds and gnomes, among MANY others!

OK, all you vintage toy collectors out there -- here is one sensational MEGA spectacular, well-illustrated reference to add to your research / identification resources! Includes a pic of Rolak and two of his overflowing display cases at his home in Bermuda!

VERY extensive Index.

For well over 20 years I have been adding these extremely well illustrated, frequently monographic auction catalogues as reference sources to my personal library, and was always absolutely thrilled to find something dealing with my eclectic interests. As with many of the books in my research library, I frequently, when possible, obtained duplicate copies, as I like to have one to use and another as a back-up. They are really a UNIQUE source for hard-to-find data and for use as identification guides, usually containing information about the size, media, dates, styles, signatures, estimated values, and often data on the artist or maker. Older catalogues are usually extremely difficult to find!
