WOW!! The site received a Web Site Design Award.
Added the incipient roots for a new section dedicated to information about the X-Files and associated things. WOW!! Can not wait to get the materials I need to get it really going.
Have not been feeling all that well lately, possibly due to the little sleep I have been getting??
When I awoke on this cool Sunday morning I discovered B & B getting ready to move tons of personal "junk" to my new abode! Now, Monday morning at 1:26h I am writing this with the two Sphynx cats perched, as usual, on top of the monitor. The other Siamese beasties have yet to make the 10 minute trip! Had to drill a hole through a wall to connect the modem, but I was surprised to be back online within an hour. Now all I have to do is unpack the dozens of boxes, clean the bookshelves and other odds and ends, organize everything ergonomically and continue my slothfully active monastic existence as usual. At least one or perhaps two truck loads of things must yet be transferred but I want to organize what is here already and be able to function BEFORE more clutter arrives!! NO FOOD in the place yet and all I had to eat all day was 2 cookies, a Coke, loads of coffee, as is customary, and piles of air!!
Day one at new place : got my first shower here. Have the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen cleaned and set up. Working feverishly on the study/computer room. First "dinner". Wanted to make sphagetti BUT the pots and meatballs were still at the other place. Got the pots, forgot the meatballs! So I wound up going to the local supermarket and bought a hoagie-- at 11pm!! Was great with the usual red wine! Made my first pot of coffee-- what I had been drinking was from a thermos left over from Sunday. Boxes all over the place!
Telephone rerouted to new place-- same number, and it only took them 3 days!! Brought the fax and the stupid answering machine over. Had to change telephone connections in the basement because I had been using the shop line.
Called the teachers union yesterday to see when the retirement brunch was-- TODAY!! So I got there at 15h-- a restaurant along the Delaware River somewhat North of here. Was the first to arrive. Was actually a union end of school year meeting and they added the retirement stuff to it-- so I had to sit through 2 hours of BS until the repast was served.

Luckily I got a bottle of red wine and munched some salad, stuffed mushrooms, clams on the half shell, sausage slices and some other of the hors d'oeuvres. Finally the half chicken, baked potato and mixed vegies made their entrance. "Desert" consisted of lemon (I guess) sherbet , which tasted a lot like what I mop the floors with, and coffee. Since the guy across from me left already I had both his sherbet and his coffee! And, as usual, I brought home a collection of leftovers scrounged from the other 8 people at my table for Tracey, the doberman-- who apparently is staying at the ole place as a watch dog. GAWD, where I am now I need an entire watch "kennel"!! If I listed on my site what they sell on this street I would be rolling in $$!! Hey, anybody wanna buy a used VCR, TV,car battery, thin ugly woman, food stamps or something smokable or snortable?? Drop by and maybe I can get you a good deal from one of my former Trenton Public School students!
Just when I only had about a dozen boxes of junk to sort out and put where the stuff belongs -- and there is not a lot of free space left already!-- another truck load of over 40 boxes of books, other minor details, 9 book shelves and 3 display cases arrived!! I am really going bonkers with all this crap! Have not even opened mail in over a week! No newspapers anymore-- I sort of miss the New York Times-- and no TV, so that frees up a few minutes of "quality" time to simply look at the boxes and wish they would just disappear!! And that electric range sucks! I have never used one before and only one of the burners seems to heat anything before the water evaporates on its own! Oh, well, the trials and tribulations of moving!!
Have not been sleeping well at all since the move for some reason. Same bed, same N-S orientation as always, BUT I just can not seem to fall asleep. So I get up, look at another couple boxes, stuff the things wherever they fit, then crawl back into bed. The poor cats, the 2 Sphynxes, do not seem to understand the late activity.
I do manage to update the new X-Files section of the site on a daily basis-- when I get the time to simply sit down and "rest" a while! I am trying to fit things into a story line that I think that I am attempting to weave. The web seems to get more involved and complicated as the site progresses. You may find something at the beginning one day, then look again and it is either missing or moved way down toward the end. The documentation part is a real task! And I still have 2 shelves of Velikovsky related books and related material to add yet!
Maria Reiche, The Lady of the Lines, that untiring German guardian and researcher of the NAZCA LINES in Peru, was a pioneer in the description and understanding of their probable astronomical representations. She spent over 50 years studying the millennia-old animal forms scratched into the bedrock and outlined with stones in the desert-like S Nazca plain. The constructed forms were only visible from the air! [Born : in Dresden, Germany // Died : on Monday, 8 June 1998 in Lima, Peru at age 95]

BeanTuska at her new place

An Alien took over my computer to contact his homebase! HELP!!!!
Devi and Chiquiguiqui, the 2 female Siamese cats moved here now. They are adapting nicely.
Piles of boxes still waiting to be unloaded and the goodies put somewhere! Then another truckload will arrive to keep things moving! GAWD!
I cleaned up the small patio here-- years of weeds and now large weedy trees that I have to cut down. Wore a bathing suit as the day was HOT. Next day had the most GAWD awful case of sumac poisoning!! So I shall be scratching for a week or so, just to add to the excitement of the move!
Another truck full arrived. Boxes all over the place and I am already tired of sorting, basically because I do not know where to put all the shit! For a couple pics of the place go to HERE and then HERE.
Saw Dr.Williamson for the usual 3 month checkup. Her finger found nothing. She is expecting in August. Had blood samples drawn for tests-- am interested in how bad they turn out!!
LOW WBC 3.0
LOW RBC 3.96
LOW Hemoglobin 12.8
LOW Hematocrit 37.2
HIGH MCH 32.3
HIGH MONO 10.6
HIGH Chloride 109
So I had to go to the doctors about my leg. He prescribed Prednisone and Hydroxyzine. The swelling has gone down-- my leg was twice the size it is in this pic, taken 6 days after the exposure! GAWD!! [PIC]
A note to my European horticulture friends : someone told me that you might like this plant (poison ivy) for your garden due to its really great red color in the fall. I can highly recommend it! REALLY ENJOY!!!
My weed poisoning is somewhat better (I shall add its scientific name IF I ever find my reference books!!). Got a clump on my back and stomach, probably from touching clothes I wore on that great yard cleanup!!
I received a surprise invite from Lorna in Burnaby, British Columbia (Canada) to be the guest, via telephone, on an hour long radio show on CKST Radio - AM 1040 in Vancouver on Monday, 29 June. Topic : Biorhythms -- something which I have not had time for since I returned to the States and began teaching!! I felt sort of "naked" because all my references are still packed in boxes, PLUS that day just happened to be an Intellectual CRITICAL DAY on my chart!! She saw the fragments about biorhythms that I already have on the site as a brief introduction to the masses of info I hope to put on-- and she liked what she saw!! It felt great to get back in the swing of things-- which I was always able to do somehow in Spain!!
So the Festiva has been making noises again for some weeks. Took it to the garage, they put it up on that lift and saw an exhaust pipe connecting thingy broken in 2 places. So I have to get up early enough some morning to take it back for a new one.
I still have not even started to unpack more books and stuff!! Have been very tired lately, and the last couple days I have been dizzy (which is unusual for me!) and not really up to doing too much. I did some cosmetic work on several of the light switches here. The place was built with no ceiling lights, except for the kitchen. The wall switches connect to one outlet to plug a lamp into-- which lights when the switch is flipped. SO, when it gets dark I can not see a freekin thing and decided to add my usual personal touches of lighted wall switches and brass switch and outlet plates. TECHNICAL PROBLEM: when the painter painted the walls, the stupid twit also painted right over the old plates and even the switches (one of which was painted shut!!). So I had to pry the old plates from the wall, totally ruining the paint job. I really hate second class work-- it usually means that I have another job to do later!! When I paint it is a very exacting detailed job, removing what can be removed, painting, then replacing the stuff again. I really need more work on top of what I already have!! Have not replaced the 3-way switches yet-- I hate them because I can never figure out which wires go where. It eventually works, BUT... Replaced most of the normal incandescent bulbs with energy efficient fluorescent ones.
In order to attempt to get some $$ I put some art works on the infamous eBay online auction. Had not tried it for over a year because I never sold anything the last time!! You can check the goodies at my new page : AUCTIONS. Bidding usually picks up the last day, BUT since I did not put a reserve on anything, I shall probably wind up losing $$!! Oh, well, I tried!
In my first week here I had to call the cops about a dozen times for various things. May add details later.

J U L Y
Configured another database program for auction stuff, using FileMakerPro 3.0. Anything to keep my mind off of how ratty I feel. Somehow I got 2 couple inch patches of skin rash, possibly related to the former poison sumac or whatever, in my stomach and back. Real nasty looking! LARGE MULTIPLE WELT-LIKE things!! I love the shower here-- tiled all over with glass sliding doors and an inset ceiling light-- takes forever for the hot water to arrive from the basement though. Loads of storage space in the bathroom and kitchen, so everything is nicely organized and handy. The two wash basins in the bathroom are a "short Italian" height, 32 inches high set in a base with loads of drawers and a long mirror that comes up to my neck! There is a small wrought iron chair under the base, so I comfortably sit when shaving, brushing my fangs or whatever. Is sort of kewl I guess.

Happy 4th of July!! Today I went downstairs and placed 2 of the 4 bookshelves in a back room, cleaned them, put the shelves in where there were mounting thingys, and emptied 34 boxes of books, at random, just to get some of the boxes out of the way!! I stopped counting the boxes yet-to-empty when I got to 42!! I was sweating like a rhinoceros all the time. It started raining and I got tired, so I am now back upstairs doing this. This is my first 4th in muchos años without a cookout, and B did not invite me to the one I assume he will have!!
It seems as if Shiva, my pregnant Siamese cat is missing from the other place. It is strange, I have cared for B's male Sphynx for over a year and he has not yet escaped, probably because I am very cautious about open doors and such!! And it does appear that he had a cookout on Sunday, the 5th, which I did not hear a word about!!
Well, my first batch of auctions ended and I wound up losing piles of $$ on what sold.
Those awful looking welts that appeared on my chest and back made me wonder why they were in two spots almost opposite each other. They began as a stinging sensation on my back. Well, I went to the doctor today because they seemed totally different from the poison sumac or whatever, and some blackish patches developed. It seems as if the Prednisone acts as a suppressant for the immune system. The doc said that if I had Chicken Pox as a kid (which I probably did) that the CP virus can return, triggered by some unknown force when the immune system is disabled, causing SHINGLES-- which is what he said the welty things are!! GAWD, so now I have an antibiotic, FAMVIR to fight the infection, and a cream to put on the welts, SSD (Silver Sulfadiazine), which I put on using surgical gloves then bandage-- which is not the easiest thing to do on my freekin back!! Since I do not have my medical reference books available, I have no idea what causes this new invader. An old dictionary has a 2 line blurb saying that it develops along a nerve-- which is probably why I felt a stinging in my back (= a nerve/s) and why it developed locally as it did (= along some nerve/s). That is why I really hate taking medication for anything-- they may alleviate one symptom without actually getting to the cause of the problem, and at the same time mess up other systems/organs, etc. Stay tuned for more medical developments as they appear!! This is ridiculous!! Lucky for me that the HMO from the State Teachers pension changed in July to include a prescription plan, with a small copayment of from $5-10. And guess what-- the new card arrived today just before I went to the pharmacy!! Listed price of both witches brews : $150.42!! Price with the new HMO card : $15.00!!! GAWD!!! I didn't have the $$ to get the stuff at the normal price!! Thank you GOD for favors, small and not so small!! And even for the welts-- it serves to remind one that we are, after all, simply human, and all must suffer the slings and arrows of things which may not be so pleasant in order to appreciate what we might encounter, every now and then, of a more positive nature. I would very much appreciate it, though, if these nicer things would be somewhat more frequent than they have been lately!!
Also did a web search and found that this cute sounding malady can be caused by S T R E S S! Guess I do not have to look that up!!
Leonard Slye, that dapper cowboy and his famous palomino, Trigger, stared in many popular "family oriented" Westerns when I was a kid. He also had a TV series featuring Gabby Hayes and his wife, Dale Evans. I later grew to have a distaste for these typically American flicks, but fondly remember the Sons of the Pioneers singing their trademark cowboy songs around the proverbial campfire. I even prefer his fast food to that other Mc chain. Roy Rogers has ridden for the last time "into the sunset". [Born : in Cincinnati, Ohio on 5 November 1911 // Died : 6 July 1998 in Victorville, California at age 86]
Well, Shiva is back, so I put her with Chucky until I have things organized enough to move them with me.
I replaced the door "chime" here because it was audible only if I stood right under it!! Put a simple bell, large, that I had stashed away for years-- and was able to find, as usual. Sometimes I amaze even myself at how I can find stuff that I had not seen in many Moons! GAWD, now I can hear the bell from across the street!
Finally took the Festiva for that forward muffler pipe. It was very expensive for a hunk of pipe!! At least now the car does not sound like a tank and I do not have to worry about dropping the whole thing somewhere along the road!
Well, I can drive again legally! My license expired 31 March 1998, and the stupid people did not send me a renewal form or notice, so it was by accident that I discovered that it was invalid. After 5 calls to Motor Vehicles over at least twice that many weeks, the stupid card finally arrived today, along with the registration for the van which I sent in last Christmas!! Every time I called they tell me the computer is down. WOW, I could lend them mine for a couple days to catch up on pending overdue business!!
I was the 10,000th visitor to Anna's great Beanie site. She has a free Good Traders List and a nice Beanie game page. We both started our cyber presence at about the same time last year. She knows the work involved in keeping her GT List up to date and all, and she does all this while in school! Congratulations Anna, and keep up the good work.
Another friend in Florida, Sherry, just launched her new domain. She dedicates her energies to Beanies and other plush toys, as well as antiques and Natural Healing. Her site is spectacular, with music and loads of graphics. She is also a stickler for detail, as you may note overall and in her Beanie and Attic Collectible tag analysis.
Every day Jonathan, from Canada, and I exchange views via Instant Messages on many things including Beanies and art in particular. At 16 he has started collecting all kinds of goodies, from Beanies to X-Files memorabilia and art. His site is nicely organized and includes much information about Canada, including a map.
The WorldWideWeb is a great place to meet very interesting people relative to ones interests, even though the contact is rather ethereal at best. And who knows, perhaps some day we shall meet in person, God willing! So I actually talk to the cats all day as well as discuss many things all over the place via this "new" medium. It is really kewl and probably helps me maintain some measure of sanity! At least it keeps my mind from disintegrating!
I have started work on a page (at least) dedicated to Evelio. The 7th Anniversary of His untimely Death occurs this month. As I scan the accompanying photos, tears well up in my eyes. Hope to have it up and running on or before 21 July.
My initial pages dedicated to the memory of Evelio Delgado are finished and now posted.
Well I finally found the time and inspiration to make my own AWARD for Internet Creativity. It was on the back burner for many months, as are MANY things.
The site also received 3 more awards this month. GAWD!! The one I like the best out of all of them is Anna's, very original, simple, unassuming and kewl !!
Jim Tye emailed me some KARDAS data going back to the 1700s!! WOW!! So now I know that my Great Great Great Great Grandfather was a person named Andrzej Kardas!! Jim and I are distant cousins it seems.
Robert Schmidt, who from 1947 until 30 September 1960 (after 2,343 TV shows) delighted kids in the Peanut Gallery who could not wait to answer the daily question, "Say, kids, what time is it?" And we would all chime in, "It's Howdy Doody Time...". Along with the eternally smiling puppet, Howdy Doody, Clarabell the Clown (the original Clarabell was Bob Keeshan, who later became Captain Kangaroo!!), Princess Summerfall Winterspring (her name taught me the sequence of the seasons!! And I still have to think of it even today to correctly put the seasons in order!!), Mr. Bluster, Flub-a-Dub and other characters, Buffalo Bill Bob and his HOWDY DOODY SHOW was one of my after-school staples as a youngster. [Born : on 27 November 1917 in Buffalo, New York // Died : of cancer on 30 July 1998 at a hospital near his home in Flat Rock, North Carolina at the age of 80]

After two days of getting lost and confused in hundreds of new names for the genealogy pages I finally got the herd of them on. I had no idea that people could marry so frequently, AFTER the former spouse croaked, of course, and have so many children!! I find it fascinating and almost unbelievable. Several new pages were added and a new format was devised using different sized and color names to denote different generations on the same page. It meant redoing all the old ones!! There has to be an easier way!!
Shiva and Chucky are now across the street enjoying their open spaces. They already know the place from years ago. Poor Chucky had been in an "apartment, quite large, in the basement of the other house for a couple years. That was Bernar's idea (it was useful)! GAWD knows what or who he will lock in it now!!
Bernar brought another file cabinet over and I was able to empty another 7 boxes of stuff. Still need two more book shelves from the other place, anothet filing cabinet and a chest of drawers.
Added some new material I just found on the origin of the TEDDY BEAR because REX always has kids asking why bears are so popular. It is an interesting story.
REX finally sent out the four FREE Beanies from his June/July contest-- a little later than normal because of my moving and attempts at organizing-- NOT DONE YET!! He has NOT gotten even one Thank You thus far for the RETIRED Spookys that he sent the kids (he thought it would be nice for the Halloween season)!!

Saw Dr. Bills, my orthopedist, again because I really have problems moving on too many days. He said I should have a hip replacement done in the not too distant future. GAWD, yes, I simply can not wait to get a titanium hip joint!!
I have been putting some of my best art works and other stuff on the infamous eBay online auctions and thus far have sold about 72% of the items, ALL EXCEPT ONE at BELOW what I paid!! It is really my own fault because I started out NOT putting RESERVES on the stuff, then I put them up with reserves well below my cost with the naive idea that bidders would know what the things were and bid way higher-- THAT DID NOT HAPPEN!! I sold a couple of my Attic Collectible plush toys-- the FIRST I ever sold!!
Well, I had a new roof put on the house, finally!! (Thanks to my eBay sales!!) From across the street it looks good. The workers were Hispanic, so I spoke with them in Spanish and they helped get the 7 trash containers of junk from the back yard onto their scraps truck!! I even cut down some of the weedy "trees" (some of which were already over 20 feet high!!) that were growing in cracks in the side alley cement walkway, and loaded the crap onto the truck also. GAWD, now the alley looks clean for the first time in years!! I have to get some concrete mix to fill in the gaping holes left by the shittin trees!! And I also have the tremendous job of repairing the second and third floor ceiling and walls that were ruined by the gushing torrents of rainwater!!
I decided to trade some of my retired Beanies for retired Attic Collectibles. I have NOT traded anything since before last Christmas when I got thoroughly disgusted with all the bad trades I was getting. Put the ad on the usual posting boards for 2 days and got so many trades I decided to rest for awhile. Now all I have to do is wait and hopefully get some good beasties in return for the ones I sent out.
A new page about Siamese cats has been added, and eventually I hope to do the same for the Sphynx breed.
So Kenny finally got his report on Clinton to Congress or wherever it went. GAWD, now the real fun will begin!! Maybe another destructive killer hurricane or some new bombings of suspected "weapons of mass destruction" sites could help keep the front pages less cluttered with what (and who) Clinton does in his idle strictly personal moments!! Who the hell would not LIE if they were already married and were having an affaire with some really ugly slutty bitch who saves her "conquest" dresses for an upcoming Sotherby's Presidential auction?? She must have gotten a real mouthfull!! GAWD, sex over a kitchen table as described in Henry Miller's writings, or against a desk in the Oval Office or Map Room used to be such fun until this whole thing came up!! You should try it under a banana tree!! Now that is really kewl!!
My latest post to those largely one-sided aol polls / bulletin boards titled :"CONGRESS VOTED TO PUBLISH THE STARR REPORT ON THE INTERNET. DO YOU AGREE WITH VOTE? WILL YOU READ IT?"
POLITICAL NONVALUES vs. FAMILY VALUES
<<I know the government does not want to interfere with pornography on the internet-- is this the reason why??
With all the "family values" bullshit most of the politicians like to publicly adhere to, allowing this report, with all of its smutty content, despite the warnings about minors and all that crap, appears a blatant smack in the face to all those who voted the voyeurs into office!! The ones who voted to release this shit to the public should all be arrested and / or impeached for explicit public indecency!!
Not even to mention the news media which could not wait to offer their readers / viewers the latest in this partisan agenda.
I can not wait to see the new confessions of MANY politicians-- fearful that their peccadilloes will appear in the media before they can fess up!!
One of the results of this porn will be many wives learning some new techniques and we will see a sudden drop in birthrate for a few months!!
Can you picture the front cover of that expensive CIGAR magazine with a pic of Monica with a lit cigar up her cunt and several congressmen standing round enjoying the show??
I do not see anything impeachable about having extramarital "sex" (IF that is what you want to call it!!) with some bimbo who saves her "conquest" dresses for a forthcoming Sotherby's sale of Presidential memorabilia!! Would you / have you "lied" about your affaire / s to your spouse, family, and or constituents??
This whole thing would be laughable if it were not for the very obvious political undertones to the whole thing. That shithead STARR could not find anything at all in Whitewater-- so let's fish in another, more personal stream and catch a big one!! I just wonder who / what he has sex with??>>
And it even called for a second round of comments :
ARREST CONGRESS FOR PUBLIC INDECENCY!!
<<If I went around providing minors with the likes of the contents of this "REPORT" I would immdiately be arrested and put on the sex-offender lists!!
Did you Americans, so filled with and enthused about "Family Values", elect these assholes to do this public exposure of someone, no matter who it is, to the mass media around the world.
Wake the hell up and call for all of their resignations as of today at high noon!! Howard Stern can't even broadcast the VERY explicit porn found in this so-called objective "report".
I hope the hell somebody finds out who or what Kenny has sex with-- IF he even can!! I always thought that judges are sworn to uphold public decency and morals, not only their personal interpretation of the law?? Is this how they do it??
No more cigars for this smoker !! <gag> >>
I can not believe it!! I just got the morning edition of the NEW YORK TIMES [that "greatest" of world newspapers-- until now!!] of Saturday, 12 September and the entire Section B is entitled "The Starr Report / Full Text of Findings Sent to Congress"!! [16 full glorious pages!!] Oh, well, I guess the great nation of American morons has as one of its main aims that noble and lofty business of selling newspapers!!
GAWD, I tried my hand at really getting a tad more creative with my front page and my main Beanie page!! Stayed up all night AGAIN and did the new graphic which you saw already on the header of my index page, and a cute Beanie "banner"!! It was fun and now I know more or less how to do it!!
And yet another couple nights until daybreak going crazy practicing making headers and banners for the cat, art, Attic Cool-Lectible, "Return to Main Page" (which you see at the bottom of this page) parts of my site and a Beanie banner for a friend in Canada!!
NO, NOT AGAIN!! I really should sleep more!! Made two take-offs on some Beanie and Attic things I saw online recently. And I reworked my main page header again!! Also have another variation that I will put up in a day or so-- sort of plan on changing among the three styles of headers for a month or so.
STRANGE, since I made all these things some four days ago I have gotten 3 emails from people who asked how much I would charge to do their web sites!! I AM CHEAP!! Try me.

O C T O B E R
Well, I just found the most complete concrete information about the infamous Y2k Millennium Bug-- Y2k
OK, Jon, here is the birthday greeting you asked Tuska for in your wild minute by minute countdown!! [8 October 1998-- 17 years old]
I adopted another Sphynx female kitten which I may name something simple such as, Pimpernelles Guichi Sungato of Guanche. She is extremely SMOOCHY!!
I changed loads of pages, adding new headers, original backgrounds, making banner LINKS, and even got to add a biorhythm page, though incomplete. And I still have not had dinner yet and it is almost 11 p.m.!!
Interesting quote : "Public media should not contain explicit or implied descriptions of sex acts. Our society should be purged of the perverts who provide the media with pornographic material while pretending it has some redeeming social value under the public's 'right to know'." -- Kenneth Starr, 1987, "Sixty Minutes" interview with Dianne Sawyer<< Hopefully the upcoming elections will do just that-- PURGE the Republican "perverts" who allowed all the Clinton stuff on the Internet for kids to gawk at!!
Well, yesterday I got a new electric stainless steel cooktop for the kitchen-- Whirlpool Mark series (was the last one at the store and they could not find the instructions or anything!!)-- has 2 plug-in "modules", one with 2 burners (small one at rear and larger one in front, which is the best and most convenient) and the other is a grill-type thing. So it did not fit in the old space and today I got my jigsaw from the other placer and made the hole wider and longer. So once it was hooked up I found that the larger burner did not work-- took the module out and the ceramic plug was cracked, not allowing for the prong to seat itself!!

Called the repair place and they told me they might be able to come over next week to fix the thing!! WOW, so how do I make dinner with one burner and a grill?? The old one must have been 30 years old and really did not work the way it should. I was going to get a "flat-top" model, but after checking Consumer Reports online I found that they heat less quickly AND are more expensive-- BUT they do clean easier!!
OK, the heat is now on-- after I cleaned out the "exhaust" flue and installed a kewl digital programmable thermostat that I must have had for over a year already-- just waiting for the right moment!! And it really works!! Now the daytime temperature will be higher than that at night, automatically-- what fun!! Oh, yes, and I finally took the air conditioner from my study window!!
I finally got around to using some more of that great antirust black paint that Horacio sent me years ago from Tenerife-- painted one of the steel and wrought iron doors downstairs, a window grill and a couple miscellaneous pipes. Still have another door, 4 grills and some small stuff to do when it gets less windy-- and BEFORE it is too cold to paint!!
On
October 30th, 1938, the United States experienced an amazing mass
hysteria--most pronounced on the East coast in New York and New
Jersey--in response to a radio broadcast of The War Of The Worlds with Orson
Welles and the Mercury Theater On The Air.
The scenario was a small town known as Grovers Mills, New Jersey.
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of that historic event.

May the spirit of Chanukah remain with my Jewish friends throughout the year!
Finally got my snail mail Christmas cards sent out.
I also finally got enthused to clean up the shop windows (below the apartment where I live now). Scrubbed the linoleum tiles, rearranged some stuff and included a couple holiday items, scraped and washed the crap from the outside of the windows, got another cactus from the other house to keep the other 2 company-- still have to bring a couple more over. Since Evelio died over 7 years ago I really did not feel as excited about the place as when he was alive.
It is 20 December-- only 5 days left till Christmas!! I unpacked dozens of boxes of books in the shop, and started filling up some shelves closest to the windows in front with them. Have some 12 shelf sections filled already, with more to go yet. Added some of the collectible toys I hope to offer-- when and IF I ever open again!! Before a grand reopening I want to put tiles in the window display areas instead of the ratty linoleum ones, and paint the display area. Will NOT be untill late January though, IF I still feel up to it. [SEE PIC] The front windows are about 4 shelf sections to the left of the left side of the photo. The place still looks like a dumping ground for boxes of junk!!
A joyous RAMADAN to all my Arabic friends!
Worked a couple more hours on the inside of the shop [PIC]. Washed another bunch of shelves, arranged some more junk [PIC]. I only completed about 56 shelves and have at least twice that many to do yet!! GAWD!!
How does NATURE know that the solstice occurred and winter should begin within 24 hours?? It began snowing a few flakes about 14h, then really started in the evening of Wednesday, 23 December!!

Worked another couple hours on the shop again today. Added a fluorescent "nightlight" in the back.
Front of shop/apartment in first snowfall [PIC]. Left window [PIC], and right window [PIC].
I had my first visitors of the season-- and my first gifts!! : Thom, a writer friend from Philadelphia, and Seymore, a psychiatrist / art collector friend of his. Received a bottle of red wine and some chocolates from them, after which they invited me to dinner. So where do I want to go-- I suggested the all-night diner on South Broad Street, but that did not seem adequate to them somehow.
So we finally went looking in the Chambersberg area where I live and found a place that was open on Mondays, DIAMONDS. As you walk in the TV scrolled the latest stock market quotes!! Had never seen that in a restaurant before!!
I had an appetizer of stuffed calimari, followed by ostrich steaks. Had not had osrrich since my visit to Texas a couple years ago! Was exceptional-- as was the 2 bottles of red wine the 3 of us drained-- and the bill!! GAWD!! I suggested that we have coffee and desert at the diner, unless Seymore was going to mortgage his home to be able to pay yet more for the desert additions!!
A Seymore joke : "How do you get 8 jews into a phone booth?" "Throw in a penny!!"
I usually like to have coffee and desert at some other place than where I infrequently eat out -- it adds diversity to the evening.
So we had coffee and cheese cake at the diner. Evelio used to love to go there with me.
I SHALL BE AWAY FROM about noon of 31 DECEMBER 1998 UNTIL 21 JANUARY 1999. So there will be no site updates during that interval.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
