My research collection of Natural History specimens was begun in 1958. My first meteorite was cataloged in 1960.

In 1963, on a student - research visit (studying Ice Age walrus specimens) from Madrid, Spain, to Utrecht, Holland, I met Dr. H. G. R. von Koenisgwald (co-discovered of Peking Man, along with my old friend, the French philosopher / palaeontologist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin!) at his office at the University of Utrecht. After presenting me with an autographed copy of his book on fossil man (in Spanish), he opened the safe he had in his office and showed me a very small skull which he said was the missing link in human evolution -- he had not made public anything about it at the time. I do not know if he subsequently published a report on the find.
He also showed me a large collection of tektites which he collected in Java (a Dutch colony at the time) and some which he received from other sources, telling me to take as many as I wanted! So I did.
He later invited me to dine at a local Javanese restaurant.

Siderites are meteorites having a high content of the metals nickel and / or iron, as well as other elements.
A cut and polished surface will usually exhibit a characteristic pattern of interhatching lines, the Widmanstätten Lines, when etched with acid.
They are denser / heavier than tektites of the same size.
Some of these Siderites are available for sale.
