The

Kardas Award

For

Internet Creativity

2 0 0 8

10th Anniversary

I have been active on the World Wide Web since 1996 and have discovered innumerable very interesting Internet sites, many of which have been honored with awards for excellence. Some sites even offer an award of their own -- Kardas.net has received several over the years.

The Kardas Award was established in 1998, and after a two year absence due to lack of applications, 2001 and 2002, possibly due to the burst of the high tech bubble, I am once again offering my new 2008 Internet Award for Excellence in Personal Web Site Design to national and international personal web sites.

2008 is the Tenth year I am presenting this AWARD for Internet Creativity. Last year (2007) there was one winner out of five applicants. Each application is judged according to eleven criteria, as outlined below.

Because Internet sites are constantly changing through updates, usually in a more positive direction, previous winners must apply each year for my new Award. I have seen innumerable web sites simply disappear, for whatever reason, but many endure and are lasting tributes to the time and effort which their creators put into them -- and continue to dedicate to them. To these individuals I look forward to being proud to present their outstanding creative achievement with this AWARD -- year after year

If you know of a web site, be it yours or a friend's, which may fulfill the conditions set forth in the following guidelines, feel free to nominate them on the link provided below.

Even the wolves are howling about my AWARD !!

GUIDELINES

The nominated site may present any topic, but should adhere to the following criteria:

1. At least the principal index page should load readily.

2. Should be creatively inviting to the viewer. That means colorful, eye catching, not overburdened with time consuming graphic downloads, nor cluttered with simply so much that it distracts from the whole.

3. Be grammatically and orthographically correct/accurate.

4. Links should all be functional, leading to the stated destination -- general site navigation should de easy.

5. Utilize various creative web construction devices such as tables, appropriate page backgrounds, graphics, animations and anything else which might enhance the subject matter.

6. Be generally creatively styled and presented.

7. Be generally informative and not strictly commercial nor including numerous advertising banners.

8. Be suitable for General Audiences, in a strict sense! And not just complete and functional when using a certain browser.

9. Include some information about its originator. Sites designed by someone else, be it a friend or a commercial web designer, are summarily excluded from consideration. It must be your creation, and you may have used a web program/application software to make it! My aim is not to find just another HTML expert.

10. Exhibit a thorough knowledge of the subject matter contained in the site, a uniquely personal creative manner of presentation, and really be enjoyable enough to invite subsequent visits.

11. If it contains last updated on notes, the citations should not all be several months old.

NEATNESS and an ORGANIZED ORDER count overall!!! Uniformity in size of pics, instead of having different sized graphics right next to each other; some logical sequence of individual sections, instead of a hodge-podge; tables or graphics that are presented in one screen rather than having to constantly scroll to the right in order to see the whole thing. Much planning and foresight MUST come before any really good site is launched!

PLEASE REMEMBER : your site reflects your dream to function as a public relations director, Pulitzer Prize winning writer, art director, non-commercial advertising expert, master teacher and good natured imaginatively creative honest human being -- as well as a knowledgeable, venerable WEBMASTER!!

If you think that your personal site, or that of a friend, fulfills the above requirements, please email me (or have them contact me) with several paragraphs of information about your creation (I am NOT interested in your unabridged memoirs!! Make it consise, informative and to the point, please.), when you started it, what its purpose is, why you think it is particularly unique among the multitude of available web sites, and in what personally creative ways have you attempted to make it outstanding.

All requests will be considered and my reasoned analysis and reply will follow as quickly as humanly possible.

The AWARD winning sites will be listed on the AWARDS page and will include, in their creator's own words, something about their distinguished web presence.
