A pic Peace took of us
on the fieldtrip using the timer on his camera.
Sonny took Peace, Bronty and me away from the computer
for a while on a fieldtrip to the Petrified Forest he has found hidden
between two mountains way up high. We had to climb for hours to get there,
and we sometimes had to use ropes to reach some real scarey parts. We wore
helmets too so we wouldn't get hurt! Sonny makes sure we take them with
us, just like when we go cave exploring with him.
You should have seen how high up we climbed. The valley
and the tall trees below looked like miniatures from some model railroad.
Then we scrambled over very large boulders and had
to crawl through a tiny opening in the rocks that led into this big room,
and at the other end we saw sunlight and a whole valley with high cliffs
all around it that seemed to go on and on for miles.
There were lots of really huge cactus and strange
looking palm trees, and waterfalls and streams. You wouldn't believe what
we saw flying around! There were Pterodactyls and giant dragonflies all
over the place, and I thought I saw some baby dinosaurs through my binoculars,
but they were too far away and I wasn't really sure.
WOW! We had lots of fun running around and looking
for fossils. Did you ever go out to find fossils? Sometimes we even wade
through a shallow stream bed and find shark teeth and seashells that are
older than as I am!
Peace, who always helps me with my emails, just relaxed
in the sun against a fossil tree trunk, while Bronty and I walked along
this gigantic colorful petrified log. We could even count the tree rings
on it. Have you ever figured out the age of a tree by counting the rings
on a cut section? Each ring counts as one year in the life of the tree.
Why are some rings thinner than others? That would make a really great
Science Fair project!
Bronty was the lucky one! He found a fossil skull,
so he proudly posed in front of his new discovery.
What a nice day for some fun in the Sun. Sonny is
really kewl!
Thanks, Sonny, from the three of us, for taking us
on this trip. Do you always say "thank you" when your family
or a friend does something nice for you?
